Community Speedwatch

Speeding Charlbury ?" With many reported issues regarding speeding in Charlbury there is an opportunity where the community itself can help. A group of volunteers (min 3) are required to run a Community Speedwatch. TVP are now able to loan out equipment on a regular basis for the volunteers to use. The community speedwatch volunteers will collect the data and report back to the local NHPT with the equipment. The offending motorists can then be dealt with. This scheme works around the country and is working in other parishes more locally. The NHPT will assist in getting this set up, identifying safe locations but volunteers are needed to take it forward. This is an opportunity for the Charlbury Residents to take action themselves.

CALLING ALL CHARLBURY AUTHORS!!

As part of "Charlbury Festival", the week-long celebration of local cultural talent that will run from Saturday 10th to Sunday 18th June, we'll be organising an exhibition of works by local authors.
It'll take place in the centre of the town - and we warmly invite everyone to sign up who's published a book or books, from freelancers to university professors. This includes all genres - from cooking to gardening, maths to history, children's titles to crime thrillers.
The exhibition will be up and running throughout the Charlbury Festival week (10-18 June); and it'll be invigilated - so there'll also be a chance to sell your books if you have copies available. It'll be very much a community event, so friendly and easy-going. And we hope the exhibiting authors might also be able to drop in at the venue themselves, to engage with visitors over coffee/tea.
At this stage, it would be useful to get some idea of the numbers. So please let us know if you can take part, and how many books you could exhibit - and please PASS THIS INFORMATION ON as well!
We'll then be in touch nearer the event about times and whereabouts...

The Monsters are back

On Saturday 1 April a team of Charlbury Monsters will be tackling the Monster Race at Cornbury Park to raise money for Charlbury good causes. This giant obstacle race (5km or 10km) is a soggy, bumpy, muddy challenge and the Monsters need your support!

Some old faces and plenty of new ones are joining the team. This year the Pre School are partnering with two great local organisations - the Charlbury Town Football and Sports Club and the 2017 Charlbury Arts Festival (starting on June 10th).

Meet some of the Monsters:

Vickie Jeffs and Jennie Grierson both went to Charlbury Pre School and Primary school (not that long ago) and now both work at the Primary School. Both of them know how important it is to the community and how it provides an excellent education foundation to Charlbury's smallest residents.

Andy Pickard has joined the team again and is the man behind a lot of the magic in Charlbury - Riverside and the Shed to name just a few. He is a great supporter of the Pre School - from DIY to Santa (shhh!) and now the monster run.

Liz Gupta is the current Chair and hopes that with enough support Charlbury Pre School will be around for generations to come. She could not imagine a better start in life for her two young girls. She also needs a lot of encouragement as was caught googling 'how to run'..

Disabled parking spot by the Co-op

There have been repeated incidents of people WITHOUT blue badges seen parking in the dedicated parking spot outside the Co-op. When confronted by a Charlbury resident earlier this week, one gentleman in his Range Rover (begrudingly) moved his vehicle to the car park behind the Co-op.

This morning, however, an active, able, workout gear-clad (personal trainer? visiting a Charlbury resident?) parked her vehicle in the spot. When confronted by a Charlbury resident about the inappropriateness of her parking her car there, argued that she would 'only be a minute' and went ahead with her shopping.

A photo has been taken of the vehicle and the reg. If you know the owner of this vehicle, please will you have a word to let them know that there are those (residents of Charlbury!) who are in need of this spot, and that those without blue badges are legally not allowed to park in blue badge spaces. If you are unable to see the reg, the number is LM62 VKZ.

If Charlbury residents will all help to 'remind' those who park in disabled parking spots that the spots are there for those who need them, and not for saving a 30-second walk from the car park, perhaps we can dissuade this from happening with what seems to be increasing frequency.

Many thanks indeed.
