TIME CHANGE: Charlbury Girl Guides starting 16 January 2019

Charlbury girl guides are back!

I've changed the time just a bit so that anyone in year 5 and year 6 who is doing Tina has a bit more time to get to the Community Centre!

We will be meeting at the Charlbury Community Centre on Wednesdays from 6:15-7:15 starting 16 January!

Girls from ages 10-14 are welcome. If you're interested, do come along, and please bring along a few ideas of what you're interested in doing (activities, badge ideas, days out, camping, etc.).

We will be working on various activities, doing things to earn badges, learning about Charlbury and the Cotswolds, and generally having a good time.

I'm also in need of a parent volunteer (or two or three!!) to assist. It's one night a week and potentially a weekend or two per year for campouts, etc.

Please get in touch if your daughter is interested and/or if you think you could help!!

Happy Christmas from Charlbury Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels kitchen team - Marianne, Ally, and Chris - prepared twenty-five Christmas lunches yesterday for area residents. The delivery team took meals to homes in Charlbury, Chadlington, and Stonesfield. Charlbury Meals on Wheels has served the local community for over 50 years and is fortunate to have many local volunteers preparing and delivering food. This year the Christmas lunch was paid for by a kind donation from Charlbury's Long Hedge and Ticknell Charity.

If you would like more information on volunteering to help Meals on Wheels or know someone who would like to receive a meal, please contact mglasgow@theridgegroup.com or susanmerry2@gmail.com . We wish you a Happy Christmas.

Employee ownership for Charlbury firm

DustScan Ltd., the Charlbury based dust and air quality consultancy, has just completed its transition to become an Employee Owned Business. An Employee Ownership Trust has been registered to hold all the shares in the company and to oversee its management and profit distribution amongst the staff. The firm was set up in 2004 by Dr Geoffrey Walton as a spin off company from Leeds University. Since 2016 it has traded under the name DustScan AQ reflecting the growing importance of air quality in society generally. It provides planning and operational advice to a wide range of companies and organisations in the UK and overseas.
An important part of DustScan's work is support on planning applications, with appropriate dust and air quality monitoring and modelling for the minerals, construction and heavy industry sectors given their potential emissions and related traffic impacts. Current work also covers research for extractive industry firms on projects as varied as weather forecast-based predictive dust modelling at surface mines and quarries, research into the explosivity of powders and gaseous and particulate emissions from industrial operations including asphalt plants, paving sites and steel works.
Deb Oxley, CEO of the Employee Ownership Association, said: "We congratulate DustScan on its transition to employee ownership. By widening ownership of the business to its employees DustScan is securing the future of the business, including its ethos, values and employees, while rooting itself locally for the longer term to the benefit of the communities which it serves." DustScan is one of number of other Oxfordshire firms that are members of the EOA.

Additional refuse collection over Christmas

West Oxfordshire District Council will collect extra recyclable waste during the festive period.

Additional recycling must be in either black recycling boxes, open cardboard boxes or clear bags and put out alongside the recycling wheelie bin. However, for safety reasons, glass bottles and jars should only be placed in a black box.

Indoor food caddies can also be left out for collection alongside outdoor food waste bins.

Cllr Steve Good, Cabinet Member for the Environment said, "The festive period is a particularly busy time for our waste collection teams, but we want to do all we can to support residents who are keen to recycle."

More information about recycling, including Christmas collection times, can be found at www.westoxon.gov.uk/festive or by calling 01993 861025.
