New messaging system on the website

You can now send 'private messages' to other website users - if you want to contact someone about a 'for sale' ad or an event, for example.

In the news, events, ad and forum pages, names are now clickable links. Just click on them and (assuming you're logged in) you'll be able to send a message.

Your incoming messages are accessible via a little 'inbox' link at the top right, which lights up red whenever you have new messages.

(The website is not delivered over an encrypted connection, of course, so please don't send credit card details or other sensitive information!)

Charlbury man in Olympics!

From the Oxford Mail:

"A West Oxfordshire man has taken part in his first Olympics - at the age of 69.

"Bill Allen has just returned from the games in China after officiating at the equestrian events, held in Hong Kong.

"While the eyes of millions of TV viewers around the globe watched the riders, he was one of the men and women in the background making sure the competition went smoothly.

"Mr Allen, of Lees Rest, in Charlbury, was starter and chief timekeeper for the cross-country round of the three-day event.

"His wife Ann was also there as a steward, helping to ensure the horses were fit and healthy."

Win 50 pounds - Take your Yellow Pages to Spendlove for recycling

New Yellow Pages directories are being delivered to every household this month. Unfortunately, the old directories can't be put in the black boxes for recycling, so please take them to the special Yellow Pages bin at the Spendlove car park next to all the other recycling bins. www.tinyurl.com/5aw3pr

Two lucky recyclers in West Oxfordshire will be picked at random to receive 50 pounds cash. All you have to do to be entered in the prize draw is write your name, address and telephone number on your Yellow Pages before depositing it the bin.

SHED on the beeb

Wed 6th Aug.

We have spent most of the day at the SHED filming for the BBC. Instead of being broadcast tonight as a three minute short piece, it is now intended to be broadcast either this Friday or next Friday (just before we leave for Edinburgh) as a much longer feature article.
Watch this space, I will put it up as soon as they have phoned to confirm.
