Charlbury Green Hub's Repair Network is closed until 1st August 2023

Charlbury Green Hub's Repair Network is closed until 1st August 2023

The Charlbury Green Hub's Repair Network is taking a break i.e. not taking on any new repairs until 1st August, this is due to Colin's other commitments. A word from Colin "For the past three years I have been donating my spare time to repairing items for the Charlbury Repair Network. In the coming months I will be helping get the Charlbury Community Workshop up and running and as well as my day job. In order to do both these tasks full justice, I will be unable to repair items until August. All items currently in for repair will be honoured and processed in a timely fashion. Many thanks for your patience Colin" .

Changes to Parking Enforcement

There has been some discussion on the Forum recently regarding parking enforcement, so I thought that residents would like to see the letter which has been sent to councillors in West Oxfordshire and to the Town and Parish councils today.  This explains the system, how you will be able to report illegally parked vehicles online without waiting for a warden to appear, and how you can provide feedback to the enforcement team.

An insight into the views and needs of young people in West Oxfordshire

Anyone interested in the needs of local young people may like to know that West Oxfordshire District Council (WODC) is about to publish a Youth Needs Assessment (YNA). This follows a paper survey delivered through schools in the District with the aim of capturing young people’s voices and opinions.

The YNA records the views of young people (11-25) about a wide range of issues, including mental health, physical activity, opportunities, safety and covid-19. WODC is conscious that young people were disproportionately affected by the pandemic and wants to take action in the light of the needs revealed in the YNA.

The YNA will be the subject of a Webinar on Wednesday 22 March between 2pm and 4pm on which spaces can be booked via Eventbrite. WODC hopes that the event will provide an insight into how young people experience life within West Oxfordshire, the issues they face and challenges they overcome.

A copy of the Youth Needs Assessment can be obtained by emailing the WODC’s Community Wellbeing Team at Lucy.dorling@publicagroup.uk .

Are you a Charlbury-based community-minded business?

Go Local! Annual Town Meeting

Friday 21st April 2023 7pm in the Memorial Hall

The theme for this year's Town Meeting is 'Go Local!' and following last year's successful event, we are widening the invites to Charlbury businesses to have a presence at it. We are inviting you to have a stall at this year's event (in the memorial hall). If you are a food business, we are thinking of having a 'food street' set up.

We would love to hear about what you do locally, especially if it has an environmental aspect to it i.e have you increased your energy efficiency/reduced your carbon footprint?

Please note this is not somewhere to sell your wares - this is an opportunity to promote yourself as a community-minded business.

I'm still working out details of this event at the moment. So if you are interested or have any questions, please let me know.

Charlbury Street Fair

Charlbury Street Fair Committee plays a very important part in the life of the town. Last year it organised three major fund raising events; a quiz, an open gardens and, of course, the Street Fair itself. In doing so it raised the amazing sum of £10,000 for the renovation and improvement of the Corner House and Memorial Hall. They can be rightly proud of this outstanding achievement. They are looking for new volunteers to join the committee, either as chairperson or member so that this wonderful Charlbury tradition may continue well into the future. The picture shows committee chairman Professor John Dora handing over the cheque to a very pleased Corner House and Memorial Hall Trust chairman, Roy Scott.

No water - parts of Hixet Wood & Sturt Road

You may or may not know that 14 houses on Sturt Road and Hixet Wood have been without any water for 4 days. Cottsway Housing are searching for the leak (believed to be on their land). Thames Water have refused to provide water. Only 3 of the 14 houses affected are Cottsway residents but Cottsway are delivering water to their tenants. They have delivered some water for the other households as well as a good-will gesture.

Please note: this delivered water is for affected houses only. Apparently people have been driving over from other parts of town and filling their boots when water is delivered.

What's a Flood When There's Coffee To Be Had? Minty to Save The Day!

After nearly three months of waiting, you will shortly be able to grab a coffee, tea or freshly baked croissant at Charlbury Station, following the burst water pipe disaster just before Christmas.

While GWR and their contractors have been sorting out the electricity and water problems, we have been busy looking at alternative ways of providing travellers with hot drinks in the mornings, to which end we will shortly be able to bring our new electric 'Citroen HY Van' to the station forecourt!

Keep an eye out for 'Minty' - you'll know it when you see it!

Oh, and don't expect the station building to open any time soon - the contractors are going to start on the ceiling repairs in a few weeks followed by ripping up the floor to find out how much damage was caused by the water. Then they will be undertaking repairs to the fabric of our lovely Grade 2 listed station.
