Charlbury Debating Society

Eminent Charlburians will be pleased to learn that the illustrious Debating Society convened in the Corner House for its late winter session on Thursday night. The motion, "British children should mostly study British history" - proposed by the historian and broadcaster, Dominic Sandbrook, and opposed by Charlotte Roueche, the town's most distinguished Hellenic Studies specialist - was passed by 23 votes to 15, with a single abstention. Despite a brilliant counter-action by Professor Roueche, Dr Sandbrook swayed opinion his way during a highly charged floor debate....
Watch out for the next Debating Society event - a pre-election head-to-head with parliamentary candidates for the Witney constituency on Thursday 9th April!
