Annual Parish Boundary Walk is back - Sunday 10th May
The annual Parish Boundary Walk is back this year, and everyone is very welcome to take part in this much-loved Charlbury tradition.
📍 Start: Lay-by at the top of Forest Road (Point 1)
🕙 Time: 10:00am
👉 No booking needed – just turn up on the day
This guided walk follows the parish boundary through parts of the Cornbury Estate, past Ditchley Farm and back to Charlbury via Spelsbury. It’s a great opportunity to take part in the historic tradition of “beating the bounds” and enjoy routes not usually open to the public, thanks to the kind permission of local landowners.
🥾 The full route is around 12 miles (approx. 6 hours including a lunch stop).
Terrain can be uneven, with nettles and brambles in places, so please come prepared:
Sturdy walking boots
Long trousers (Blandford fly protection recommended)
Insect repellent
🥪 Lunch stop: Ditchley Model Farm (kindly hosted by Rob and Maxine Hobill)
Please bring a packed lunch, snacks and plenty of water. It’s also sensible to carry emergency contact details.
🚶♀️ Joining part-way? You can join or leave at various points along the route:
Cornbury Bridge (4), Solar Farm lay-by (7), Saltway/Woodstock Road crossing (10), Ditchley Farm (11), Enstone Road crossing (12). Please let the walk leader know if you’re leaving the group.
A lovely way to enjoy the countryside, learn a bit of local history, and spend time outdoors with others.
