Charlbury Museum & Heritage Centre opens Easter weekend

Charlbury Museum opens its doors to visitors from Saturday April 4th until October 25th 2026. New opening hours: Saturdays 10.30 -12.30 and 2.30 - 4.30, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays 2.30 -4.30. In 2026 the museum will be open for an extra month.

The Exhibition: The Playing Close through the Centuries continues for this season and we are pleased to include an extra exhibit of  metal detecting finds discovered on the Playing Close by Neil Pakenham-Walsh (see photo). With thanks to The Thomas Gifford Trust for permission to display these pieces in the exhibition.

Behind closed doors the work goes on, including the  conservation care of the museum collection. The museum now has a specialist museum hoover to enable the careful cleaning of objects (see photo). Our Trustees are very grateful to the Beer Festival for their grant to purchase the ConserVac.

We look forward to welcoming visitors to Charlbury's unique museum, to enjoy the permanent collections and the current exhibition on the history of the town.
