Launch of U3a Croquet Club Charlbury Cricket Club

"Although many outdoor and indoor ball games are now available in Charlbury and Chipping Norton, there has never been a place where people can play croquet. Members of The Chipping Norton Area U3a have been in touch with Charlbury Cricket Club who have most generously offered suitable pitches to play croquet.

A informal “planning “meeting is therefore proposed at the Rose & Crown in Charlbury on Tuesday 17th February 8pm where more will be explained. All are welcome.

The first event itself will be on Tuesday 14th April at 3pm and on a weekly basis . We hope to use 3 pitches i.e. 12 people playing for a 45/60 minutes. As numbers grow Wednesday and Thursday will follow. The club will offer the two forms of the game, Golf (where to start) and the more sophisticated Association Rules.

There will be no Match Charge, but Members will need to be members of the u3a (£20 pa) and soon join the Cricket Club as a Social Member (£30) per year after a trial period.

A bar and coffee will be available.

What we need now is equipment to be donated or loaned please.

Help is also needed now to record (perhaps collect) and replenish the old equipment which will be stored by the Cricket Club. We may have to buy some bits of equipment, but it is likely that the Cricket Club will help.

Down the line we want to make sure there are enough previous players to coach and explain the rules!
