Another crash on Fawler Road

The B4022 from Charlbury towards Fawler and Finstock saw another fatal crash on Saturday evening.

According to Thames Valley Police: "At about 5.43pm there was a collision between a red VW Golf and a black Vauxhall Astra on the B4022, Fawler Road, between Charlbury and Finstock. The driver of the Astra, a 53-year-old woman from Finstock, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

"The driver of the VW, a 34-year-old man from Berinsfield, was taken to Horton Hospital in Banbury with serious injuries. He is in a stable condition and is expected to undergo surgery this morning (29/11).

"Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have any other information in relation to the incident.

"If you have any information about this incident, please contact PC Roberts Abletts, via the 24-hour non-emergency number, 0845 8 505 505. If you do not want to speak to the police, call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111."

The Oxford Mail reports that this was the second fatal accident on the road this year, following the death of a motorcyclist in April (full report.)

Oxfordshire County Council is currently consulting on imposing a 50mph limit on the road, which is currently unrestricted. Local residents and the Charlbury Cycling Group have requested that a 30mph limit be imposed as far as the town signs, and the Cycling Group also has a longer-term aspiration for a fully off-road route along the same corridor.
