Read 19th century newspapers online for free (including Jackson's Oxford Journal)
Oxfordshire County Council Library Service gives access to the 19th century British Library Newspapers database through its Reference Online service at www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/referenceonline. You can access it through the People’s Network computers in all libraries and from home if you are a library member.
Library membership is free, and you can sign up on the spot at Charlbury Library and get your card and membership number.
The 19th Century British Library Newspapers database does not yet have its own entry in the list of databases on Reference Online. Click on the entry for Times Digital Archive 1785-1985, enter your library membership number in the box on the next screen and then select 19th Century British Library Newspapers from the three Gale databases to which the county subscribes.
