Woodland Trust Advice - Halloween

Don’t dump that pumpkin!

For those of us who want to give local wildlife a tasty treat, leaving used pumpkins in the woods might seem like a great sustainable option for disposal. Unfortunately, pumpkin flesh can cause serious illness in hedgehogs and other woodland animals as well as upsetting the balance of sensitive woodland soils.

Help keep your local woods healthy this Halloween by finding alternatives to pumpkin dumping: making spiced pumpkin bread, curry, hummus or even a bird feeder. Or just pop in your compost pile!
