Eviction of artists.

Two long standing members of the Charlbury arts community have been issued with shock eviction notices and must leave their workshop studios on Spelsbury Road at the end of the month.

Emma Maiden and Clare Carswell who have jointly worked up there for more than twenty years, have built successful creative small businesses. As well as making her own stone sculpture, Emma runs popular weekly sculpture classes, which for  now will continue at Wilcote Art Studios at Finstock.  Clare has run dynamic youth arts projects, a supportive artist residency programme since 2012, and has recently refurbished her premises to make a small gallery in order to show the work of artists from the area and further afield. Clare is one of the regions arts and dementia specialists and as we leave the pandemic, was looking forward to resuming her arts and dementia sessions for people  who live with dementia in the area. She is now seeking premises to continue this work as well as to host artist mentoring and residencies.
