Charlbury Speedwatch, latest news

We've been very busy over the last nine months, with 48 sessions carried out to the end of September. We checked over 7,600 vehicles during these sessions, found 14% of drivers speeding and reported 409 of these to Thames Valley Police for individual follow up. Some of these drivers have spoken with C.S.W. volunteers to apologise for driving too fast and others have said how pleased they are to see us out on the roads trying to slow drivers. Look out for more details in the December edition of the Charlbury Chronicle.

Consultation is due soon on the proposals for a 20 MPH limit in part of Charlbury and we urge all residents to support the idea and make your views known about the problems and effects of speeding in Charlbury. The CSW team strongly support the Town Council & Oxfordshire County Council proposal and will be promoting the consultation process.

We also send our congratulations to Chipping Norton for implementing a 20 MPH limit in their town.  If you travel through Chippy, note the new flashing & repeater signage slowing the traffic as it nears the town centre.  This is a fantastic outcome to a determined project led by local people & the Town Council and we hope that it will have a real benefit to the residents & visitors to Chippy.

We are working hard to achieve the same in Charlbury.
