Co-op attacked this morning (updated)

A 'ram-raiding'-style attack on Charlbury's Co-op has caused significant damage to the entrance.

The attack took place at around 3.35am today (Tuesday) with the apparent intention of emptying the cash machine. The shop reopened with temporary frontage in the early afternoon.

Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses:

"Staff were called to the store after an alarm was activated, and upon arrival they found that the front doors had been forced open and attempts made to remove an ATM machine. It is not believed that any cash was stolen during the incident.

"A white Renault van and a silver Land Rover were recovered nearby. Both vehicles had previously been reported as stolen and are believed to have been used in the incident.

"Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Adrian Brooksbank, based at Witney police station, said: 'I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident, or who has any information relating to it. I would also like to speak to anyone who saw these two vehicles travelling or parked together before this incident took place. If you have any details which you think could help our investigation, please call the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number on 101.'"

"If you have any information relating to this case, please call 101 quoting reference 43180000767, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously."
