Brown's Lane - please park carefully!

Ever seen a double-decker bus wedged between a wall and a row of parked cars? That was the situation for the S3 Oxford bus this afternoon.

A (wide) Land Rover was parked on Brown's Lane, several inches from the kerb and with its front wheels left in mid-turn. The hourly S3 bus attempted to pass, but was only able to get partly through before having to stop.

Subsequent manoeuvring left the bus wedged - its passenger door in the ivy on one side of the road, its back end almost touching the Land Rover, and neither the driver nor passengers able to get out of the bus. The X9 Witney bus and several cars were backed up behind.

Fortunately, after 10 minutes or so, the owner of the Land Rover returned and was able to move it closer to the kerb - averting a police call-out.

The (brand new) S3 double-deckers are 2.5m (8ft 2in) wide and do require that the road is kept clear. If you're parking on Brown's Lane, particularly if you have a large car, please:

  • keep close to the kerb
  • make sure your wheels are not angled outwards
  • fold in your passenger-side wing mirror
