Time to order your Christmas trees, lights and brackets

Each Christmas about 100 householders and businesses in the centre of the town put a lighted Christmas tree on the front of their premises. The effect is quite magical and most people think it is all the better for being so simple.

If you haven't taken part before, why not join in this year?

The whole event is organised by members of Charlbury Business Community (CBC), and culminates with the switching on of the lights on the tree at The Bell in Church Street by an invited celebrity on Thursday December 3 at 6pm. The town's shops stay open till 8, carol singers and morris dancers roam the streets, Santa visits his grotto at The Bell (where there is face painting too!), and everyone has a great time. More of all that later...

Order forms for trees, brackets (if you do not have one) and lights are being delivered to about 200 addresses in the town centre. If you have mislaid yours, or live outside our delivery area, please collect an order form from Evenlode Books in Market Street (if the shop is closed, there are forms in the leaflet dispenser on the shop window).

A bracket (made by Wychwood Wrought Iron) costs £28 (you are responsible for screwing it to your wall). A locally supplied Christmas tree can be delivered to your house on Saturday November 28 at a cost of £12.50, the stem ready trimmed to fit your bracket. When we did a survey, we found a very strong preference in the town for old-fashioned yellowish-white lights (i.e. NOT BLUE!), and the John Lewis low energy LED outdoor lights are the appropriate colour. Some people used them last year and they looked great. This year you can order these from us as well. (People also much prefer the lights to be on their 'static' setting, rather than one of the flashing settings.)

(Of course your lights are your choice, but at least you now know what your neighbours would prefer!)

And before you ask: CBC makes nothing from all this, we price everything at cost, and do it for the town.

Trees will be delivered as above. Brackets and lights can be collected from Evenlode Books during opening hours: we’ll email you when they are ready.

FINALLY: please return the order forms BY NOVEMBER 7 AT LATEST.
