Local Elections - Thursday 6th May 2021

The following elections will be held in Charlbury on Thursday 6th May 2021 and further details can be found on the West Oxfordshire District Council website by following this link.

• Charlbury Town Council (all 12 seats) – 3 year term*

• Oxfordshire County Council (Charlbury & Wychwood seat) – 4 year term

• West Oxfordshire District Council (Charlbury & Finstock – 1 seat) – 3 year term*

• Police and Crime Commissioner for the Thames Valley

* Members elected to the Town and District Councils will serve only 3 years instead of the normal 4 year term as these elections were postponed from May 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Registering to vote

Anyone who wishes to vote must be registered on the electoral register. The deadline for those who are not registered to make an application is Monday 19 April. For more information and to register see: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Postal voting

For anyone interested in voting by post this year they just need to make sure they apply before 20 April 2021. They can request a postal vote application form by visiting https://www.westoxon.gov.uk/about-the-council/elections-and-voting/register-to-vote/

We would encourage people to sign up to do this sooner rather than later.

Proxy voting

If a resident is unable to make it to the polling station, then they can nominate someone to be their proxy and cast their vote for them. The proxy needs to be a registered voter and able to attend the voter’s own polling station. Applications for proxy voting need to be sent to the District Council by no later than 5pm on Tuesday 27 April.

Candidates’ Nominations – County, District and Town Council Elections

Candidates’ nominations for the County, District and Town Council elections have to be submitted to the Returning Officer, via Committee Room 2, Council Offices, Woodgreen, Witney from Monday 29 March 2021 and by no later than 4 pm on Thursday 8 April 2021.

Nomination Papers will be available from the Returning Officer from the beginning of March. For more information about nominations please contact electoral services. The names and descriptions of the candidates nominated will be available from the Elections page of the website as soon as possible after the closing time of 4 pm on Thursday 8 April 2021(www.westoxon.gov.uk/elections).

Polling Hours and Polling Stations

Polling hours on Thursday 6 May 2021 will be from 7 am until 10 pm.  Information about the location of polling stations will be available on the District Council website, from early in April.

Covid-19 and Voting

Government guidelines will be followed and polling stations will be equipped with hand sanitiser, and subject to regular and frequent cleaning of touch points, with the numbers of voters inside the buildings at any one time being limited. Voters will be asked to wear face coverings and are encouraged to bring their own pencil or pen to mark their ballot papers.
