Jeremy Clarkson to be new proprietor of the Bell

Local motoring journalist Jeremy Clarkson has been announced as the new proprietor of the Bell on Church Street. Mr Clarkson, who lives on a farm outside Chadlington, is leasing the pub from the Greene King brewery starting today.

“Charlbury has always had a special place in my heart,” he explained. “It has a silent majority of drivers who will love to prop up the bar in my new pub, plus a noisy minority of tofu-munching cycling hippies who will guarantee outrage in my Sunday Times column for months to come.

“To be frank, I know absolutely nothing about running a successful pub,” he continued, “which meant I instantly had a lot in common with Greene King.”

The announcement was rushed out after a local hack noticed Mr Clarkson’s name listed as a director of the company that is leasing the pub, Bell End Enterprises Ltd.

Mr Clarkson says his first action will be to close the bus stop on Church Street because “buses are for poor and elderly people and it brings down the tenor of my pub… I’ve already checked with West Oxfordshire District Council and they’re delighted because they can replace the bus stop with more free parking for SUVs”.
