Charlbury Rubbish Friends

An informal group who pick litter on the verges outside the 30 mph speed sign along the roads in and out of Charlbury in the early Spring before the vegetation really gets going.

The group is allied with the Charlbury Wildlife Society, as the verges are important wildlife corridors and have a key part to play in nature recovery.

We have collected 100 black bags full each year for the last 5 years - 50% is recyclable mostly beer cans, alcohol bottles and plastic, and 50% non recyclable - crisp packets, sweetie wrappers, non recyclable plastic, paper etc.

The traffic hurtles along, but the skylarks and violets are a joy. Thank you to the hedges for holding the defence line and stopping so much of the litter from getting into the fields and being ploughed in, or we'd be even more plastic than we already are. The rubbish is an environmental hazard.

You will need stout boots, a hi-viz jacket, litter picker, bags, gloves. Participation is at your own risk.
