Outreach in Bangladesh 🇧🇩 For the last eighteen months members of Charlbury Baptist Church have been supporting ‘Life for Bangladesh’ www.life4bangladesh.org They manage three schools, 100 Life Groups for young people & provide relief for the poor in rural areas of Bangladesh. One of our members, Stephen Page is U.K. Secretary for Life for Bangladesh& currently involved in planning & fundraising for the charity, he also helps to lead weekly online Zoom Life Group meetings for young people.
After we learned about the various activities of this charity our Church decided to pray for & support their work to spread the Word of God amongst those in rural Bangladesh. We realised the children who were keen to learn at the school in Kaligram had to sit on the floor. Having arranged a local supply of wood & other necessary items in October 2022 Andy Faulkner, local carpenter & lifelong member of our Church set off to work at Kaligram school alongside local craftsmen for five weeks. During his visit they made 35 new desks & benches for the primary school children.
The roof has many holes & during the rainy season learning is seriously interrupted. To complete necessary repairs for the school two phases are necessary. Firstly to repair the newer brick building, new roof, ceiling & install electric light. Second phase: rebuild the old wooden building in brick.
Both Andy & Steve have made many friends who keep in touch with stories of how excited the children are to sit at their new desks to learn. They send their thanks for the difference this work has made to their lives, as they see God’s love demonstrated in practical ways within their community.
You are welcome to visit our garden at any time. It is available for use by the local community for quiet reflection throughout the year but we would ask that you respect the privacy of our neighbours.
All food donations should be left at the Cornerstone shop in the Corner House. Donations of store cupboard food (with a 6-month use by date) are welcomed for distribution to families in need within our area. If you are unable to visit Cornerstone Food parcels may be requested through Charlbury Community Centre, should you know of anyone in need.
Please note that all five Charlbury Churches contribute & donations can be received from anyone.
If you would like to hire any of our facilities we should be pleased to hear from you. The Church is suitable for larger groups (chairs rather than pews) and there is a bright room at the side overlooking the garden that would be suitable for smaller groups. There are excellent kitchen and toilet facilities. There is disabled access to the building. Please contact the Church Secretary.
We currently offer our meeting room, kitchen facilities free of charge. Wishing them well at this traumatic time.
We do hope you will be in touch and look forward to meeting you.
