People seem to be forgetting that a new shop is better than no shop.

Next year (May) I will of had a shop in town for 20 years, in that time I have seen too many shops come and go.

Why ?

Well maybe because the people of the town didn't support them, or maybe they weren't selling the right sort of produce I don't know could be a million and one reasons then those empty shops get converted into houses and then there is not a cat in hell's chance that they will ever change back to retail.

No one shop will be able to command the customers of this town to shop exclusively with them, people will make up their own minds where and how and with whom they shop, they will no doubt spend a little at each establishment should they choose.

Maggie says she is concerned that "those of us that can’t afford the prices that are likely to come from Chloe’s venture will lose out on the opportunity to buy fresh veg from a local source. Styan's have been loyal to this town "

Well if that is the case then I would imagine that these customers will continue to purchase from Styan's stall.

We as a town should be welcoming with open arms that someone wants to open a new venture in the centre of town no matter who they are !

From the sounds of it they are taking the time to ask people what they want and to consult similar businesses to try and not stock the same produce.

Yes parking is and will always be a pain in the backside when it comes to this town.

Hey a couple of years ago at a council meeting I even took the time to make a presentation of a great way to increase the parking at the Spendlove centre just by adding a second layer to the existing carpark, by having one of those Meccano style bolt on layers that lots of train stations have, the company was more than willing to come out and have a look and give an estimate but alas after spending hours researching this system the idea was dismissed in an instant, such a shame.

But hopefully and fingers crossed the owners of these cars will be supporting the local shops of the town.

But one thing I do know is that no matter what happens you are never going to please everyone.

I for one will be very happy to see another shop filling an empty premises if it means more customers will come down to the centre of town.

Long live the shops of Charlbury !
