Sun 26 Oct, 11:34 (last edited on Sun 26 Oct, 11:39) Just to recap, your very own Deli & Café is moving across the road again – but this time to the Corner House instead of Old Bank House (not forgetting the old place down Sheep Street!). This is a huge opportunity to create something special – for everyone – by switching to ‘the sunny side of the street’ and mixing it with the bookshop, Cornerstone, the Art Group, the museum etc – a genuine community space for all…. If all goes to plan, we’ll be starting to move later this week and over next weekend (1-2 Nov). We’ll be closing for some of the time to enable that to happen and aiming for an official launch with a BANG on 5 November – remember, remember… With luck, we’ll be functioning for some of that time so do call in and see. And if you’d like to help with the move, carrying a chair or two, maybe even wielding a paintbrush, we’d be very happy for you to join us at some point from Thursday to Sunday. Talk to Geraldine or Laura in the shop or call them on 01608 811157 to let them know your availability. A free coffee at least, just not sure when! And – there are inevitably significant costs attached to our moving, both for us and the Corner House. Although set up as a limited company, the business has never in 30+ years (as far as I know!) made a significant profit nor has it paid any dividends to shareholders – it’s always been run as a facility for the community it serves. That includes YOU. So if you value that – and want to see it continue – any financial contribution towards the move will be gratefully received – and put to good use. There’ll be a place to leave something in the shop or if you prefer to be more private, write to me at rod@charlburydeli.cafe and I’ll send you bank details – and I promise we’ll spend it well (actually, we already have…)! We’re always looking for new people to become involved in running the company, perhaps in the New Year converting it to a Community Business Society. If you’d like to know more, and possibly become a volunteer director, do get in touch with me directly via the above email. Not forgetting that we have been and will continue to be: Community Owned, Community Run since 1991 |
