Wed 15 Oct, 09:24 (last edited on Wed 15 Oct, 09:28) As per my opening post here, the Deli & Café is gearing up to move across the road into the Corner House! There has to be a ‘why did?’ joke there somewhere… The deal isn’t yet fully signed, sealed and delivered but if everything goes to plan we’re aiming to start dismantling in the Old Bank House from Weds 29th – and to re-open (with a BANG!) in the Corner House on Wednesday 5 November! Remember, remember….. This isn’t a move that we’re being forced to make, at least not yet. With 18 months to go on our lease, we could have stayed on and taken our chances. Instead it’s an opportunity to move into premises more in keeping with our ‘heart of the community’ ethos – and to go on serving that community for as long as you want us to. The potential is surely there to create something special - for everyone - right in the centre of town. We may not have everything as smart in the CH as we’d like on opening day, and we’ll be feeling our way with what customers want in the future, but you can be sure of the same warm welcome, familiar faces, bread, cakes, pastries etc as always. And of course, coffee!! We won’t be selling alcohol, at least not to begin with – a conversation for another day. But we’ll review everything after Christmas – and just think about sitting out in the garden in the spring, lazy lunches on the lawns in summer…. a nice glass of rose’ – no, no I didn’t say that!! If you want to help in any way with the move (over the weekend of 1-2 November), with (whisper it!) a donation towards it, or by getting involved as a director or advisor, do get in touch either by talking to Geraldine or Laura in the shop or via info@charlburydeli.cafe. We’ll be having some kind of sale of stock very soon (so we don’t have to cart everything over the road) so keep your eyes peeled for that. And finally - I grew up in Stratford Upon Avon, so can crow about upstarts (geddit?!). I went to London as a young man too incidentally but any other similarity stops right there! By all means, in the short ‘interregnum’ go and see if you can find the missing bean – but don’t forget we have been and will continue to be: Community owned, Community run since 1991 |
