For the uninitiated, the Charlbury Deli and Café (Ltd) has been serving the people of Charlbury - and others - for over 30 years.  It has over 120 predominantly local shareholders.  The directors are all volunteers and we currently employ 9 local people.

One of our 3 directors has just retired.  Family commitments mean I shall need to give up the chair in the near future but I intend to remain as a director for the time being.  Following a decision at our recent shareholder meeting we are now looking to recruit a number of new volunteers, ideally as full directors but also in ‘non-executive’ / advisory roles – and we already have 2 people helping us in that capacity.

It’s a busy time for us, not least as we are looking at a possible move from our existing premises in Market Street (it’s widely known that our present lease expires in May 2027) – and possible conversion to a Community Business Society.  The shareholders have charged us with coming up with specific plans by the end of September – and I hope to get to that position well before then.  And we are currently making some changes in our management structure, opening times and menus – including, fingers crossed, opening on Sunday mornings – watch this space!

We’ve been grateful for offers of help on specific items in the past but we really need to work together as a team, if I hope with individual directors/advisors leading on particular topics such as marketing, finances and operations (both currently covered but more input always welcome), events and human resource issues.

If this strikes a chord, drop a private email to our Chair of Directors, Rod Evans, at directors@charlburydeli.cafe and we can either have an informal chat first or better still, send us the briefest of CVs and tell us what you’d bring to the party (and one day we just might have one).
