Christine, I just came on here to post the same... What a hero! My husband picked me up from the delayed Oxford to Charlbury train tonight and we were most grateful to whoever that lovely person was who helped direct us back up the hill. Such kindness.

I would like to thank whoever it was standing in the middle of Dyer's Hill in the cloudburst & thunder storm around 21.30. A manhole cover had popped off & an absolute torrent was coming out of it. This wonderful chap was directing traffic around the hazard. Without him there, I think my car would have come to grief as it is a very dark stretch of the road, made even less visible by the amount of rain.

Needless to say, the roads are just awful -- actually more like rivers than roads. The trains are also severely disrupted.
