Well Huw, Charlbury is in line to get the Worst Environmental and Ecological Awareness gong from my Ecology Party of One. Absolutely no surprises there although a spokesperson from the Network Rail on the radio news on Thursday morning said in all seriousness that this was their opportunity to increase not destroy the bio-diversity by planting smaller trees, shrubs and so on. Right, that's ok then!

From the railway overbridge on the drive into Cornbury Park you can see the extent of tree and habitat removal currently ongoing by Network Rail. My understanding is that the work is far from complete with a mumber of mature trees beyound the confines of the railway scheduled to be removed. The blue dye sprayed on the ground is probably a systemic herbicide to stem future regrowth.

There is probably nothing that can be done now - so sad that 30 years of nature has been removed in one fell swoop.
