WOW! I wonder if the purchaser was from Charlbury, surely it would only have meaning to such a person unless of course it's to sell on.

Just saw this - but think we may be too late already as the action looks like it was this morning: what a shame, this would have been a good thing to restore to Charlbury!

Thanks Tim - I remember the one at Truthall Halt on the Helston to Gwinear Road line in the 1950's.

its the old style sign that's used on railways to say what town you are in rectangle shaped with curved ends with a raised centre and bottom section (if that makes sense ?)

Judging by results for similar lots, it will go for several hundred pounds and possibly significantly over a thousand. Just depends who is interested and bidding.

Very short notice - and haven't investigated the auction site - but how about a bit of crowd funding? It should come home, non?!

In case some people have no idea what a "totem" is, and I admit that includes me, have a look at gnrauctions.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/450.jpg

I've just noticed a Charlbury totem in an auction tomorrow, Saturday 7th.
GNRauctions.co.uk lot number 450.

They say they will take commission bids up to the start of the sale.
