It is worth noting that the legal definition of "affordable housing" doesn't actually mean that people can afford it: see www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-38067626.
"Reality Check: What is affordable housing? The government's definition when it comes to renting is that affordable homes should cost no more than 80% of the average local market rent. When it comes to home ownership, it is a little less clear-cut. The government definition of affordable housing states it must be provided at a level at which the mortgage payments on the property should be more than would be paid in rent on council housing, but below market levels. That is clearly a very broad range. It must also be able to remain at an affordable price for future eligible households." etc.

Sorely needed. Without something like CLTs, "affordable" housing in Charlbury subject to market forces will NEVER actually be affordable. The cheapest property in Charlbury today is a 2-bed flat at £265K. With a 10% deposit and a mortgage at 3.9% for 25 years, monthly repayments would be £1,250. For a 2 bed flat. The cheapest 3-bed house is £425K. How much would new 2/3-bed homes on a new estate go for??

I have recently become aware of Community Land Trusts and would like to know more about them
The aims are stated as
'Community Land Trusts (CLTs) are a form of community-led housing, where local organisations set up and run by ordinary people to develop and manage homes as well as other assets important to that community, like community enterprises, food growing or workspaces. The CLT's main task is to make sure these homes are genuinely affordable, based on what people actually earn in their area, not just for now but for every future occupier'
What I would like to know is whether anybody has any experience with them and how successfully they operate.
