The River Bridge

Intriguing. This bridge was badly damaged in the July 2007 flood, so why was it not repaired to an adequate standard at that time?

As regards Station Hill, it is high time that parking was restricted to the Southern side only. I doubt if anything over 7.5 tonnes could get through anyway!

Here is the exact wording of the extension:

Temporary Road Traffic Order - S14 Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984
Temporary Weight Restriction - 7.5t - Charlbury - Forest Road river bridge

In the interests of public safety it will be necessary for Oxfordshire County Council to extend the duration of the temporary 7.5t weight restriction on the river bridge, just east of Charlbury Rail Station, as the river bridge has been assessed as being a weak bridge and still needs strengthening.

The date for these bridge strengthening works is as yet unknown, so an open ended Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) is being made to implement the temporary restriction from 10 February 2014 to follow on from the TTRO that is already in force.

Notice of intention to make the Order will be published in the local press.

Exemptions are included for emergency service vehicles in an emergency and for the works.

A copy of the drawing showing the extent of the restriction and suggested alternative local (B4026) and through routes (A361 / A44) is attached.

Further information regarding the works may be obtained by contacting Charlie Benner, OCC Highways & Transport on 0845 310 11 11.

Thanks for the update. The official notice posted near to the bridge still shows the old dates.

I don't recall the exact state of the paperwork but yes, it has been extended.

If you see a lorry breaking the limit, please do report it using this online form.

On the OCC website for roadworks, it lists a bridge restriction starting 14th November 2013 and expiring 31 December 2014, so perhaps it has already been extended?

Never mind -- I never saw a lorry pay attention to the weight restriction anyway. The best was a double articulated lorry that spent about half-an-hour trying to negotiate the corner by the Baptist Church without taking out all the bollards at one end, or one of the residents' cars along Dyers Hill.

On 28th August 2012, Oxfordshire County Council posted a notice enforcing a 7.5t weight limit on the bridge over the River Evenlode. This restriction is to last for 18 months or the completion of work to strengthen the bridge, whichever is the sooner. As far as I am aware, no such work has been done and the 18 month period is due to end on 28th February 2014. Has anyone any news about this, particularly what will happen from March onwards?
