. PEOPLE'S MILLIONS FUND
funds projects that make local communities a better place to live, (including buildings, amenities, public and green spaces, and the natural environment) opens to applications on Tuesday 14 March 2006.

The programme, operated by the Big Lottery Fund in collaboration with ITV, will give out 90 one-year grants of up to £50,000 each across the UK regions to community based projects. Voluntary and community groups, local authorities, schools, health bodies and social enterprises are eligible to apply for a People's Millions grant. The deadline for applications is Thursday 18 May 2006.

Each ITV region will announce a shortlist of projects in October. From 13 November to 17 November the public will be able to vote by telephone or text for the projects they want funded in their region. There will be four or five grants awarded in each ITV regional news area.

In addition, GMTV viewers will also be given the chance to vote to award a single grant of £1.5million for an exceptional project covering more than one area of the UK. This will occur in April 2006. For further information see: http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/programmes/pmillions/index.htm '
