Mon 2 Nov, 17:24 Or is it £46/13/4 .. I sell pre-decimal coinage at 75% of face value (fifteen shillings in the pound)? It's a return to my childhood doing these sums! (Of course pre-1947 silver coinage sells for high-multiples of face-value - a shilling fetches £3.) |

Mon 2 Nov, 15:19 That's the number that I dropped off in a warehouse in Datchet recently (they counted them, not me!), generously given by Charlburians in Cornerstone over the last few months ... along with rather more valuable obsolete and foreign coins & notes. Do keep it coming -- leftover cash from holidays abroad and out-of-date money from your mother-in-law's attic have raised hundreds of pounds in the last few years for Corner House and other local charities. Just drop them off in Cornerstone .. or send for me if they're too heavy to carry (which the pennies were). [The pennies raised £35: in other words sixteen of them are worth 5p for charity.] |
