Bridge footpath closed at Coldron Mill

A note from the landowners on the Spelsbury WhatsApp group says it will be closed for 2-3 weeks for repair.

One of the problems is that the official line of the footpaths, as shown on the definitive map, does not go across the footbridge but across the bottom of the pond.  It has been like that since the pond was created many years ago.  Certainly the landowners responsibility to keep the bridge in an adequate state of repair.  I suppose the County Council could demand the pond be drained to allow the proper route to be used!

Yes. It's quite complicated apparently, and the landowner is responsible for repairing the bridge

Is this the same footpath that is subject to the Public Enquiry in January?

It isn't necessarily the council that is responsible for repairing the bridge if it is on private land. We had a lengthy problem with a footbridge in Ascott because the landowner would not engage but we did eventually get it sorted.  I will find out what is happening from the footpath officer

Googling this a little further... it looks like they are supposed to put notices on decision points.. And it looks like it is the county council responsibility for maintenance of the bridge.

Under standard protocol for a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO), the council is supposed to post warning notices at the natural entry and decision points of the path network, not just on the bridge itself, so walkers can choose an alternative route before walking all the way down the track

Just to let people know that the bridge has been deemed unsafe by the local council and the bridge footpath closed. I don't know who is responsible for fixing this but it's certainly a pain getting back round to the other footpath that goes round the back of the mill!! Would have been nice if the owners or council had put a notice on the forum or perhaps a notice at the charlbury end of the footpath. Anyway i've put this on the forum to let other walkers know!
