Thames Valley police put a warning out not long ago about criminals coming to West Oxfordshire and using drones to view areas/properties, believe it or not. Another possibility is security companies who look after certain high profile individuals that are now using them, this could also be a possibility in Charlbury, we do have a few of them appearing lately.

Years ago a similar concern related to planes taking photos of properties from the air which would then be offered for sale to householders. This was, of course, before tech advances allowing satellite imagery.
This was potentially a private nuisance if the plane was too low as the property owner owns the air space above their property to a sufficient height for reasonable enjoyment. And this will apply to drones.

There are also rules that apply to drones which vary with the type in terms of size and weight - rules about how and where and at what height they can be operated.

We had this a while ago and it turned out to be the police.

We have also (at about 22:05)  had a very intrusive drone hovering over our garden on Dyers Hill and over other neighbours gardens.  We have a reasonable idea of where the drone landed and would like to remind the owner of privacy laws relating to General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018. For neighbours worried about similar occurrences the following website is helpful in describing what evidence to gather and what practical options you have in terms of making a formal complaint. https://hiredronepilot.uk/blog/neighbour-drone-over-garden-uk/

Dear neighbours, please be aware that there is currently ( 21.44pm) a large drone with a bright light possibly filming over Shilson Lane, Park St, St Mary’s church/Church street area. The drone had a loud buzzing noise, bright light shining down & was hovering over our house & garden and some other houses nearby for several minutes. It its quite clearly a private home, so this felt very intrusive.
