Sun 12 Jul, 18:01 This morning at the. 9.15 am Mass we had no lights, no organ, no microphones, no tea or coffee afterwards. The faithful rose to the occassion singing A cappella ( unaccompanied) with gusto and in tune. This is what it must have been like in Charlbury for centuries. We survived, as Gloria would say. |

Sun 12 Jul, 15:22 Yes, power on. Co-op now open, staff busy loading up all the wasted foodstuff. Such a shame, but they can’t do anything about that. |

Sun 12 Jul, 13:13 We lost power twice in Chadlington very briefly seconds after the final whistle! Surely people weren’t switching on their kettles…more likely to be opening fridge for a cold celebratory drink ! |

Sun 12 Jul, 09:50 Please check on vulnerable neighbours and friends in the affected area. With the extreme heat and lack of working fans, they might well be experiencing difficulties. Those who have digitised phones will probably be unable to make or receive phone calls on their landline (and perhaps also on their mobiles). I discovered this during the last extended power cut (a few weeks ago). Although I have battery back-up for my BT landline, it only lasted for a few hours. Fortunately this time I'm outside the affected area and only lost power for a very short time around midnight |

Sun 12 Jul, 08:37 Well - we have electricity most of the time, which many places in the world do not have. Be grateful. A minor inconvenience. A short power cut. We don't live in Venezuela, Ukraine or many other countries facing big challenges. Interesting programme this morning on Radio 4 about how fans jumping up and down celebrating can cause earth tremors, even earthquakes! |

Sun 12 Jul, 07:36 It came virtually straight back on up here @ 9 acres. ( after they’d told me it was off till 7…) must have been the celebratory cups of tea! |

Sun 12 Jul, 01:09 (last edited on Sun 12 Jul, 01:18) Just a few minutes after England's win. Could have been worse. Seems to be most of Charlbury, but not farther afield. SSEN now reporting power back by 07:00. |
