Thank you Alison for a lovely recommendation: my mother-in-law Jean Datson lived there for several years,  and my father moved up from Devon and lived there for six years, both thoroughly appreciated the companionship and comfort it offered - which is why as a community we fought hard to buy it when it was slated for closure.

As of last September our new charity owns  the premises, and we work alongside our partners Abbeyfield Wessex Society to run the facility. We have a few newly renovated rooms available to let at reasonable cost including two home cooked meals a day, utilities, council tax and wi-fi!

We have one of our monthly drop in sessions tomorrow morning .10.30 - 11.30 if anyone would like to take a look!

My mother in law Grace lived in The Old Bakehouse for a decade, she rented out her large family home which made the arrangement financially sustainable. The costs are much lower than a residential care home.

She had a wonderful life there with her own furniture, pictures and books in her room. It had an en suite and kitchenette with a fridge . She made her own breakfasts. Her health greatly improved after moving in.

As her ‘supporters’ ( relatives or a close friend) we became part of The Old Bakehouse community as well.

At that time most of the ‘supporters’ were from Oxfordshire whilst the residents were both local or from much further afield.

Slatters shop and Cafe de la Poste are both close.

We have very fond memories of this time. I am so glad that I remembered the Old Bakehouse when we needed it.

Hi there,

We are looking for a ground floor apartment or bungalow, for our elderly father who lives locally, and is looking to downsize and move to Charlbury so we can take care of him ( we are both Charlbury residents). We are looking for a 1 -2 bedroom property, with a nice size lounge, ideally with parking close by. If you know of any suitable properties, or are aware of anything coming onto the market soon, then we would be most grateful if you contacted us.

Many thanks,

Jess & Vicky
