Tue 7 Jul, 10:10 Thank you Clare. It's what we all need to think about. That's why I asked about feedback from the West Oxfordshire council meeting held in the Community Centre where we all discussed priorities for Charlbury in dealing with climate change emergencies. Lots of things were mentioned - e.g. children starting fires in the woods for kicks, topical again. I wasn't able to attend the film showings in Charlbury. I'm going to the film in Chipping Norton next week. But I don't need to see the film to know what's happening. What I missed was any feedback or information on who or how an emergency response is being co-ordinated. I'm not sure we have time on our side. For example, where do we find a list of names and addresses of people who might be adversely affected by extreme heat so that we can take them to a place of safety? Where is that place of safety? How do we fund running a cooling system in a public/charity run building? Flooding of all roads in and out of Charlbury - how do we get a medical emergency to hospital when the water flows over all the roads? How do we put out fires in Millennium Wood when there is no water source and the fire services can't get near? If there is someone working on this I would really appreciate hearing about it please. If there isn't, then we need to start yesterday. |

Mon 6 Jul, 17:52 As we start our third heat wave of the year, wondering if the "heat ready London" strategy could offer some ideas for Charlbury Town Council (and all of us!) |

Wed 24 Jun, 18:08 (last edited on Thu 25 Jun, 07:59) 36.1C! 50 year record falls, surpassing the previous record of 35.6C set in 1976! Hope you are all managing to stay cool... ... it feels timely that Sustainable Charlbury hosted the People's Emergency Briefing at the Memorial Hall a couple of weeks ago! Looking forward to connecting locally on these issues - we'll keep you posted on the comments and the priorities identified at the two screenings. |
