Mon 25 May, 07:45 Hans with respect your information is totally wrong NHL 3.5 lime would need to be used, in a ratio to suit the existing pointing and raking out with a machine is fine in the right hands. Cement should not be used for pointing of natural stone. |

Sun 24 May, 18:02 My builder did that for me in 2018, he has now retired. What to watch out for. 1. Use of angle grinder to remove old pointing as this will damage the stones. 2. Getting the colour wrong. The only way known to man/woman around here is using 6 6 1 mix: 6 parts soft local sand, Travis Perkins is fine, 6 parts hydrated lime, one part cement. The only cement to use is Hanson in paper bag. 3. The pointing must be soft brushed after wire brush. |
