Mon 11 May, 16:01 (last edited on Mon 11 May, 17:04) Thank you very much to those who are supporting our Charlbury Hedgehogs. It's dry, hardly any rain, so please put water out for them and the birds etc. Please everyone open up their gardens so that hedgehogs can move around and find each other and enough food... If you see a hedgehog out during the day and it is listless/confused, then something is wrong. (as opposed to out during the day and busy probably looking after hoglets). Please act as quickly as possible. Put the hedgehog in a reasonably large high sided box so that it can move around, in a quiet place, with a warm hot water bottle wrapped in a towel and some water. Pleases TEXT 078027 61779 with details of where you are and what is wrong. The Hedgehog Nurse is currently receiving garden machinery casualties. For instance she tried all she could to save little Margot, but the strimmer (grrr) went right through to her shoulder bone causing a major injury, and so little Margot didn't make it :-( If you have to use a strimmer please use it with care. Also we seem now to be in the time of robot lawn mowers. If you must use one, please use it during the day rather than the night when it can harm hedgehogs. Dr Sophie Lund Rasmussen at Oxford University is researching the use of robot lawn mowers and danger to hedgehogs, and we would be interested to hear from anyone who is using a robot lawn mower and what brand it is. Thank you. |
