Sat 9 May, 21:36 District Council elections are held in cycles. Roughly a third of district council seats are up for election in any given year, rather than the whole council all at once. ▪️Councillors typically serve a four-year term. ▪️Elections are held in three out of every four years. ▪️Each year, a different group of seats is contested. Having said all this, next time things are likely to be different, given that the government wants to abolish 1 tier of local government. There are 3 possible models for the proposed "unitary authorities" for Oxfordshire, and we don't yet know which one will be selected by the government. In all 3 of the models WODC and Cherwell will be part of the same authority -- interesting given that on Thursday Cherwell elected 6 Reform Councillors, but WODC elected only 1 Reform Councillor. Oxford City didn't elect a single Reform councillor on Thursday. but in one of the models, WODC, Cherwell and Oxford City will together comprise a single "unitary authority". |

Thu 7 May, 09:19 Is there an election in Charlbury today. I’ve not received a polling card! Has the government changed the rules again or something? I thought once you were on the electoral roll you didn’t need to register to vote every time there is an election! |
