Thanks for the warning. I was wondering if they'd be early this year along with everything else. I've been bitten twice in the past and found that the best thing to do to prevent spread and infection is to SCRUB the site asap with soap and water, then DO NOT scratch the itch (difficult but necessary). It finally stops itching after about 3 days.

Time for the long socks!

Elaine's warning very welcome. I will add Mosquito Dunks to my pond -- Mosquito Bits also works just as well. Both available on amazon.

Glad that the health link has been sorted out, but it is rather outdated. The link should also say that infected insect bites is now one of seven conditions that can be treated by a community pharmacy, without the need to first consult a GP or other health professional. See Pharmacy First

I am sure Averose is only too familiar with treatments for Blandford Fly!

Blandford flies are back! I remember my first summer of 2022, when I knew nothing of these tiny little flies and ended up with cellulitis after being bitten 12 times - probably walking down by Sandford Brook. See here for advice on prevention and what to do if you are unfortunately bitten. https://islipmedicalpractice.nhs.uk/media/cgad2rdb/blandford-black-fly.pdf
