Bird trapped in disused chimney

Thanks to all who gave advice, and particularly to the kind neighbour who popped around and released the bird.

Does the corresponding chimney breast have an air vent you can unscrew? If so, do that, but close all internal doors first and open an exit window or door. Then lay bread trail  down to lure it outside.

I have dealt with this twice in a previous home and a workplace. First time it was a magpie, second a crow.

You might also want an umbrella to hand to protect yourself.

We think we have a bird trapped in our obsolete chimney.  Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get it out humanely?
