Charlbury Train Station Parking (Roads)

Maybe the good people of Charlbury could walk or cycle to station (those that are able bodied) rather than using their cars, thus freeing up some space for those that live further afield. Also, can anything be done about the speeds that some cars reach between the nursery and the station, especially over the bridge when exiting/entering the station? It seems odd that this section is 30mph when the rest of Charlbury is 20mph. This is extremely dangerous when walking children to nursery.

John,  The Cotswold Line Promotion Group have taken this up at the highest level with Great Western and with Network Rail.

I wonder if the puddle on the approach road was mentioned! To those that walk into the station it is always a source of concern as not every driver displays considerate driving skills!

Sean's intervention probably comes out of a Labour Party meeting with Heidi Alexander (currently Minister of State for Transport) in the Memorial Hall in Charlbury earlier this month. Sean was chairing the meeting.

For security reasons, meetings involving existing MPs are by invitation only. This is a real shame as it limits the numbers of those able to attend. It does, however, mean that in these meetings there is enough time for a detailed question and answer session, including about local issues. There was a similar session in Charlbury with Anneliese Dodds in Charlbury last June.

Heidi Alexander is currently MP for Swindon South where she also lives. She was Deputy Mayor of London for Transport between 2018 and 2021, and is exceptionally well informed about a large range of transport issues. It's good to see Sean following up on some of the problems raised with regard to access to public transport which is a issue that Heidi also addressed.

Hopefully Sean will make some headway on this issue. It’s really nice to have an MP who will go to bat for their constituents!

Unfortunately this meeting was yesterday, however there is going to be further follow up to this meeting. In advance of this I will come back to both the Parish Council, and you as the local County Councillor Liz to get your take on issues. Thank you for responding.

Can I also suggest, Sean, that you speak to me before you meet GWR, as I have been meeting with them regularly about parking and station access, together with officers at the County Council, over a period of several years, and there are constraints with which we are all very familiar.

Perhaps you could add to the agenda a justification for the ~60% price increase for daily parking since 2022, beyond price gouging?

Thanks Sean. It would be good if you could meet with representatives of the town council before your meeting as we have a long hisotry of engagement with GWR. There are several issues that need addressing, not just related to parking.

I understand from constituents that there are issues with parking and accessibility at Charlbury Train station. I have spoken with representatives from GWR today to discuss this and what can be done to fix the issue. I will continue to engage on talks about this and will invite GWR to meet with me in Charlbury to highlight the accessibility issues being faced by local people.
