David Green, who is Head of Innovation at Blenheim and who gave the u3a presentation to the Science and Technology group, does himself live in Charlbury.

David explained that he does also monitor the biodiversity of much of Charlbury via IoT sensors that monitor things like birdsong, insect and animal movement. I had noticed odd boxes on lampposts and other structures locally, and had wondered what they were. As I now understand the situation, they communicate environmental data via radio waves to David's house in Charlbury.

I'm not sure how widely this information is shared with organisations that work on nature recovery in Charlbury, but such organisations surely need to be aware of the potential of this rich resource. David answered a lot of technical and detailed questions, but clearly there was a lot more that could have been said about the algorithms that he has devised to monitor the Charlbury environment, as well as that of Blenheim itself.

Wow! The biodiversity and environmental monitoring they do is fascinating along with the protection of heritage sites like Blenheim Palace. Well done innovation team at Blenheim and graduates and professors of both Oxford and Oxford Brooks Universities.
