Cotswolds village homes ransacked in series of burglaries

Another home in a Cotswolds village has been ransacked for wine and jewellery, the latest in a series of burglaries affecting villages near Chipping Norton.

The latest incident occurred between 2pm on Saturday, February 21, and 6pm on Sunday, February 22, at an address in Great Rollright, a village just north of Chipping Norton.

Police say that thieves broke in and stole jewellery and wine from the home, and officers are appealing for anyone with footage of the incident or who witnesses the theft to come forward.

Anyone with information can make a report to police by calling 101 or making a report online, quoting the reference number 43260089516.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: "This appears to be part of a series of burglaries in the Chipping Norton area.

"Thieves are looking to steal cash, jewellery, silverware and will often search for a safe.
"This incident is a reminder for everyone to stay vigilant and take steps to secure your homes."

Security advice issued includes locking all doors and windows, use a burglary rated safe, install CCTV and motion-sensor lights and make homes look occupied, even when empty.

Recently, a burglary occurred at an address on the Chadlington Road in Spelsbury, near Charlbury, between February 17 and 20.

Before that, a burglary took place in Shipton-under-Wychwood on the evening of Thursday, February 19, when burglars broke into a home on the High Street at about 8pm.
