The issue is Gigaclear don’t allow others to use their infrastructure other than a few small providers that are equally, if not more expensive than they are.

Hopefully once BT get theirs in, they will continue to allow others to access their infrastructure and subsequently take away Gigaclear’s stranglehold on customers and open up all sorts of price competition from other providers for faster broadband…she says wistfully!

From all the disruption for gigaclear/comex installing the fiber across town, now BT are putting their own version of that same fiber optic cable in.  Shame that it doesn’t work in BT’s favour to use other networks link to the property, just as other networks had access to BT.  Oh for minimal town impact to our utility provision.

Well, it seems that in Ditchley Rd the new fibre cables will mostly be running overhead, from a new telegraph pole to an existing telegraph pole and then to the individual houses. Work ongoing today.

It will be interested to discover if that's going to be the same all over town. Think it will look rather a mess.

I'm sure that they are offering wayleave agreements, with attendant financial compensation.  I got some money from BT a few years ago after noticing an overhead cable passing over my garden.

You have to ask.  For some reason, they don't usually offer it voluntarily. 😉

I spoke to the Open Reach people a few days ago. They are installing full fibre for those on BT broadband.

In my part of Ditchley Rd the fibre will be running to and from a telegraph pole and carried by overhead wires to the individual houses, in place of the copper wiring that is already there.

I think this may be different in other parts of the town, and perhaps also in other parts of the street. I know they offered one of my neighbours the option to run a wire to a (different) telegraph pole, but said that other solutions would be available when she said she wasn't very keen on the overhead wiring option which they had proposed.

I think so. It was Thames Water in the week and now Open Reach.

Can anybody please tell me why the road is being dug up around the Green? I saw an Open Reach van which may have just been a coincidence. Are they installing an alternative to Gigaclear fibre perhaps?
