This is sad news for Charlbury. John has done a fantastic job over the years .....including running a very efficient newspaper delivery service.  Good luck in your retirement John. Thanks for everything.

John and the team at Londis have always gone above and beyond, especially during Covid, snow days, and other difficult times, making sure the community was supported when it mattered most. Their kindness, dedication, and genuine care for people will be deeply missed. Thank you, John, for everything you’ve done for our community over the years. He has our wholehearted nomination for the Honoured Citizen Awards 2026—please nominate John.

Outstanding customer service, exceptional kindness and an incredible work ethic.

An inspiring human being who many can learn from. Goes above and beyond.

A much-deserved different pace after 40 years of dedication to the community and getting up very very early!

Quite a transition for John and his customers.

Looking forward to meeting the new team who have 'big shoes to fill', and whose choice in taking over the shop and who it serves will have reflected John’s values built up over 4 decades.

I’ll never forget how kind he’s been to my son who has special needs, and the fact that one year, when we were all snowed in, he walked all the way from
Witney in the snow to open the shop.

I have been a customer of John's for all of those 38 years and he has always gone above and beyond what it is to be just a shopkeeper. He has allowed credit to those in need when others would not and always worked on the basis of trust.

He fully deserves his morning lie-ins.

All the Best mate,  Phil.

John is not only a friendly guy - he also cares. I know that he has helped numerous local people not only by being a trust first and suspicious second person but by using his faith in humanity to get help to those that needed it. East Charlbury in particular will miss him, he will be a hard act to follow and I for one will regret him leaving but trust that his legacy will stand as due testament. Enjoy your retirement Sir and keep up the squash (with Green muscle Gel!) and may you manage to sleep in more often.

I popped into Londis this morning and there's a notice announcing John's retirement after 38 years of unstinting service to Charlbury. His last day "in the office" will be this coming Sunday. John will be an incredibly tough act to follow. Always on the lookout for his customers. Here's to a long and enjoyable retirement, and hopefully we'll see him back on the football pitch now he'll have a bit more time on his hands. Thanks for everything John, and good luck!
