Thank you Simon, unfortunately after shoulder surgery I am unlikely to be able to bring it down to the workshop.

Helen - depending on the amount of damage, we may be able to repair it for you at the Workshop.  Unless, of course, you no longer need it.

Hi lovely workshop folk. I recently damaged a small cabinet so top drawer won’t go in any longer. Have put free on adverts but did wonder IF any use could be made of the structure in any way before landfill?

Just picked up a hand made bird box from the workshop. It’s wonderful. Even has a protection plate round the entry hole. We’ll be putting it up when/if it stops raining.
They make bird boxes and hedgehog houses. They are charging £12 for a bird box and £15 for a hedgehog house, the designs are approved (RSPB etc)

In answer to your question, Kim, when we set up the Community Workshop, we had four main aims in mind.  To provide a place for people who feel the need for some social companionship.  To help people learn new craft skills.  To have a place where people can pass on their skills and experience; and - as a follow-on from all that - a place where people can bring things that they would like to have repaired rather than just sending them to the dump.

Both the soft-craft and the woodwork sections of the Workshop regularly get repair requests.  We always look at what is needed, and will take on a job if it is within our members’ skill set.  As a rule, we don’t do electrical repairs or anything that involves welding, but most other projects - and there have been some interesting challenges - we have given back to their owners in much better condition than when they came in.

In line with our aims, we also encourage people to come in to the Workshop to do their own repair projects; we have experienced members who are on hand to help, advise and supervise.

Our report in each edition of the Charlbury Chronicle includes information about repairs that we have done recently.  Jobs we have got on at the moment include fixing some wobbly dining-room chairs, getting some kitchen scales back into working order, and repairing the band on someone’s fedora!  If something needs doing, bring it in, and if we can do it, we will.

Is it worth giving us all a little reminder of how the workshop works? I wasn't aware that they did repairs :-)

They are absolutely brilliant .. tackling almost any job with cheerful ingenuity. I've set them some interesting challenges over the last year, and they've solved all of them with aplomb, keeping all sorts of things out of landfill!

Good to see that our Community Workshop has been publicy recognised - see the news item. I'm sure a lot of their work goes un-recognised.
