Mon 12 Jan, 21:06 We’ve always known the Oxford Mail struggles with English, but evidently maths is not their strong point either – February 1 to February 8 is eight days, not ten. The closure is until 4.45am on February 9, not on February 8. |

Mon 12 Jan, 16:45 Notice of 10 day closure of Oxford Station in Oxford Mail today: "The train line between Oxford's train station and Didcot Parkway will close next month for 10 days while a bridge is demolished. Great Western Railway service has issued advanced notice of the full closure of the line between the two railway stations from Sunday, February 1 until Sunday, February 8. A rail replacement bus will operate on the line from just after midnight on February 1 until 4.45 am on February 8, instead of all direct and stopping train services, which will be cancelled. Direct trains between Didcot Parkway or Oxford and Banbury will also be replaced with buses, but stopping services on the line will continue to operate. The railway line between Oxford and Didcot Parkway stations will be fully closed for 10 days. Trains at Oxford's station will only be using platforms one or two, and all rail replacement services will be operating from the long-stay car park in Becket Street." |

Sat 10 Jan, 09:08 Thank you Christine Battersby. Not much fun being stranded in Winter, or doing a rail replacement bus, which is why I thought it best to check before the train ticket sale deadline tomorrow 12 Jan! PS I noticed that the new parking charge (from 5 January 2026) at Charlbury train station is shown as being £6/day when actually it is £6.20. Source Apcoa receipt this week. |

Sat 10 Jan, 08:55 (last edited on Sat 10 Jan, 08:56) Journeys from Charlbury are also affected in subsequent weeks, including for trains going towards Worcester and beyond, so it's very important to check your proposed journey. |

Sat 10 Jan, 08:44 No, the closure does not mean that Oxford station will be closed. It means that there will be no services running south of Oxford towards Didcot and Reading. Rail replacement buses will operate between Oxford and Didcot and v.v.. Charlbury trains will terminate at Oxford and return journeys will start from Oxford - as will Cross Country services. Chiltern Services to Marylebone will be unaffected. Journey times to Reading and Paddington are likely to be extended by 60/75 minutes. If the bridge work goes as planned, through services will resume at 04.45 on Monday 9 Feb. If you are planning to travel from Charlbury during that week go to GWR.com/check |

Sat 10 Jan, 07:05 https://www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk/engineering-work-oxford “Network Rail will be carrying out major engineering work at Oxford station from Sunday 1 – Sunday 8 February 2026. The work will involve installing a replacement railway bridge over Botley Road as part of the development plans for Oxford station. The bridge will enable an additional line to serve a new Platform 5 currently under construction as part of the Oxford Phase II expansion. As well as the new western entrance, the replacement bridge will also benefit road users and pedestrians on the A420 Botley Road. The work will take place over from Sunday 1 – Sunday 8 February 2026.” Does this mean that there are no trains at all from central Oxford train station between these dates but Oxford Parkway will be operational as normal to park and travel from there? London is my destination. |
