Tue 6 Jan, 17:42 GWR is included in the GBR sale but the cheap tickets are nowhere near as good as offered over the last four days. The nationwide sale is very patchy and is something of a disappointment. GWR do still show a fare of £18 p.p. each way from Charlbury to Cornish destinations but whilst I managed to buy those over the weekend, today they are all around double that price - still a good deal if you can find it. The Chiltern fares from Ox Parkway to Marylebone appear to cost as much as the regular off-peak day return. Cross Country might be worth looking at if you wish to travel north or south and are willing to change trains from Charlbury at Oxford or Worcestershire Parkway You'll learn more about the train companies participating in the sale by pasting the following link. That site will also giving the details of booking agents such as TrainLine. |

Tue 6 Jan, 16:06 There's a Grest British Railways sale, also involving GWR, just advertised and on until 12 January. The week-long Great British Rail Sale, running from 6 to 12 January 2026, will give passengers the chance to save well over 50% on many advance and off-peak tickets. The reduced fares can be used to travel on thousands of popular routes between 13 January and 25 March 2026. Nearly all train operators are taking part, with routes spanning the length and breadth of Britain. More information here: www.gov.uk/government/news/all-aboard-for-savings-the-great-british-rail-sale-returns GWR offers only advanced single tickets in the sale, but that's not true of all rail companies, so worth checking other companies and routes. |
