Thank you all so much for your interesting ideas. Not sure how old my television is but it seems OK except for the problem I have described.

I notice gigaclear is not mentioned. The router is in another room but not far away.I don't think I have any other devices that use broadband.

I will discuss your comments with helpful friends who are more technical than I am (they could hardly be less !) and keep you posted.

Glenna, if you are watching on catch up and it keeps going it is likely to do with your broadband. Try restarting your router. How far away from your TV is your router if that is the case - it may jog something? Give it 10 minutes to cool down before you turn it back on. It could have an impact. Thick walls don't help in this situation! Fo you have lots of devices that all use your broadband at the same time? You may need to contact your broadband provider for advice. Good luck.

While we are on the subject, I have noticed how bad the live TV aerial reception has got in Charlbury of late. Thank heaven for my Amazon Firestick as the live (aerial TV) receptions seems to change with the wind! And let's face it it has been very windy the last few days.

How old is your television? We replaced our 10+ year old set last year, that had started to exhibit the behaviour you mention with increasing regularity, and the problems went away. We are not with gigaclear, and did not change service provider.

Why am I getting such poor reception when I try to watch tv programmes I have missed ?

They keep stopping and then a small red circle appears, whizzing round, then after a bit the programme goes on but then it happens again quite soon.

I have been told I would be better on gigaclear---could this be the reason ? If I am watching a programme in real time there is no problem.
